Medium
(193/322) Fredericktown
Topographic Maps: East
Palestine, East Liverpool North (both Ohio)
County Maps: Columbiana (Ohio), Beaver
Description: In
Fredericktown on river right an octagonal building contains displays concerning
the history of the Vodery estate, the canal, and surrounding area. In the
vicinity is the foundation of an old mill. This is an easy Class I stream
through Ohio farm land. It suddenly changes to Class II just above the
take-out. [Checked 1988]
Difficulties: The
Class I run ends suddenly with a 5‑foot falls about 0.25 miles above
Fredericktown, with a foot bridge a few yards above the falls. This is known
locally as "the Tubs". Carry around the falls and prepare for 300
yards of strong Class II water. The land around the falls is private property
belonging to the Vodery estate.
Shuttle: The
put-in is on State Route 154 where it crosses the Little Beaver
Creek. This is about 0.5 miles east of Negley. To reach the take-out, go
west on State Route 154 to State Route 170, then south to
Fredericktown.
Gauges: East
Liverpool. This gauge is downstream on the Little Beaver Creek. We do not have
enough information to report runnable levels on this section. Call Beaver
Creek State Park or Ohio Canoe Tours. See Section A of the Little Beaver Creek
for the phone number.
Normal Wet Period: No
available statistics on seasons. Since this section is medium-sized, it should
normally be runnable approximately December through May.
